Nashville's top adult and youth spoken word artists uncover, celebrate, and reshape past African-American voices through performances which memorialize, caution, educate, and inspire. As attendees move through the library on this walking tour, poets will come to life and perform pieces sparked by the heros and influences which drive them forward towards a successful future. The journey is free and begins every half hour. Presented by Youth Speaks Nashville and the Nashville Public Library.

Tennessee Service Learning Conference

This conference will provide the opportunity for K-12 community-based and school-based youth and practitioners across the state to connect with service-learning leaders through general sessions, workshops, exhibits and networking opportunities. Nationally renowned author and trainer Cathy Berger Kaye (author of The Complete Guide to Service-Learning) as the conference's featured speaker. Youth Speaks Nashville poets will perform and conduct a workshops at the conference.

Black History House Workshops

Ages 11 to 14
Nashville's top college and high school poets facilitate creative writing and spoken word workshops for young writers, poets, and emcees betweeen the ages 11 and 14. Participants prepare pieces for open mics and the library performances. Select participants perform at East Library and Main Library's Black History House.

Ages 15 to 19
Youth writers and organizers come together to prepare and workshop individual and group pieces as well as plan and organize Youth Speaks events. Facilitated by Nashville's top spoken word poets. Next major show is Black History House at Nashville Public Library's East and Downtown Branch.
